A Brazilian Future: 3%
In a first for Netflix, November 25th will mark the release of a Brazilian TV series; 3%, led by City of God director Cesar Charlone.
The series will look at a dystopian future in which humans are split between two regions; the Inland & the Offshore. Only 3% (hence the title) of humans will ever make it to the Offshore and the 'Perfect Life' whilst the rest will remain in the Inland; a poverty-ridden and oppressive existence. To make it to the Offshore there are a series of tests and challenges so that only the strongest (Darwin's 'Survival of the Fittest' springs to mind) members of the human race are allowed to flourish and enjoy their lives.
In a quasi-Black Mirror manner, it looks as though this series will analyse the dark side of humanity; how far would you go to better your peers and make it to Utopia? The reality of this is (as always): a lot further than you would like to admit, and it's this exploration of a sinister morality that will be interesting. The trailer (here) looks very dramatic, and it looks like this Brazilian series could be pretty entertaining. One thing's for sure; if it's anything like City of God, we're in for a real treat.
Keep an eye out for any teasers, but remember: November 25th.
