An Alternative Birthday: Drake

Today is the birthday of the fan-favourite, potentially most-memed celebrity of the last few years (apart from maybe the superstar from the recent presidential debate; Karl Becker); Drake. Unsurprisingly, he is plastered all over every popular culture website online, sipping on scotch with his (genuinely very impressive) successes dotted around him. So, here's something a bit different.

Everyone knows about Drake; his music, his style, his omnipresent face in society, his relentless vanity in front of camera (see image), but here's some random snippets of knowledge you may not know about the guy.

Drake coined YOLO. He is credited as the reason this phrase went viral, after he used it in his song The Motto. Fair enough, this is pretty cool. Now, whenever you say this phrase (which hopefully for your sake you won't), you will picture Drake's brooding, sultry visage (sorry).

He has been named as "one of the most stylish men alive" by GQ magazine. Not that interesting, but another one for the CV I guess.

Drake's real name is Aubrey. Not surprised he dropped this one (no offence if you're called Aubrey, just don't think it would suit Drake's me-me-me lyrics).

Probably the coolest thing Drake has done is voice the character of Ethan (the young mammoth) in Ice Age: Continental Drift. This, this I am jealous of.

Drake graduated from High School at 25 years old, 10 years after dropping out. He subsequently tweeted about his impressive 97% on his last exam. Not pointing fingers, but this is a slight bending of the rules taking your A-levels when you're 7 years older than anyone else in the entire exam. I do hope he went to a sports hall to take the exam though, that would have made an excellent photo.

And that's that. Now you know some quirky facts about the rapper to drop into conversation at your next dinner party.

Happy Birthday to Drizzy.
