Andres Amador: An Artist in Sand
Andres Amador is a little-known artist who deals in a very particular style of art.
The San Francisco-born artist always works in an unique medium; the sand. He creates large-scale, beautiful pieces of art using the sand as his canvas, and a rake as his brush. Often with a crowd watching from a nearby, elevated viewpoint, such as a cliff, he slowly and precisely creates these enormous masterpieces. He is always in a race against time, against tide, as once the tide comes in, his art is lost forever. This is part of the magic of Amador, the work he creates is always ethereal, and will disappear before the day is done.
Interestingly, his inspiration comes from the study of crop circles, and you can see the geometric patterns reflected in his work, as he regularly transforms your average beach into a stunning piece of visual art.
Given the temporary nature of his work, he aptly lives by the philosophy that the journey is more important than the destination. For a clip of the talented Amador at work, click here.
