Behind the Scenes: Narcos
If you haven’t seen Narcos, don’t read this. Unless you already know he
dies, then feel free to read away.
Netflix have just brought out a short, new featurette on the final
episode of the series. It’s only about three minutes long, but seeing the
actors come out of their Latin American personas and discuss the angle at which
they approached their roles and filming is very interesting. None more so than
the brutal Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura); it’s an almost surreal experience to
see Pablo talking in a non-fear-stirring manner, without any of the pent-up
anger, frustration and rage that is increasingly visible in his character in Season
2. An eloquent Wagner Moura discusses the ins and outs of his performance, and it's slightly bizarre to watch, having only ever associated him with the murderous king of cocaine.
What’s more, the choice of location for the final scene of the series
is also very poignant (I won’t give it away), but it appears to have inspired
and motivated the actors to produce what is an immensely moving, intense and
sad goodbye to the Colombian drug-lord at the end of the second season.
Hopefully more of these to come from Netflix, but for now, roll on
Season 3 and Javier Peña. Watch the featurette here.
