Kicks out for Harambe
Harambe; the world's most famous gorilla. In what became a significant animal rights story, but also a viral meme, Harambe was tragically killed in Cincinnati Zoo earlier this year when a young boy fell into his enclosure.
Whatever you think of the story, and however you think it should have been dealt with, there's no escaping Harambe; he is all over the internet. Both satirical (including the 'D***s out for Harambe' pseudo-campaign that went viral on social media) and serious fan pages have been set up in homage of the gorilla, and he has been nicknamed the meme that doesn't disappear.
Anyway, October has typically been the month during which American football players make statements for their personal causes through their footwear, and one player has used this to show his respect for the late gorilla. Minnesota Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon has had a pair of special edition Nike boots made with Harambe's image printed on the sides as well as the words 'RIP Harambe' overlayed on the front.
Will Harambe ever disappear from our newsfeeds? At the moment, it looks unlikely.
