Sick Fights Back
The Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto has just released an immensely captivating fundraising video to help raise both publicity and money for their essential cause.
They have championed the idea that: A boy suffering from kidney failure isn't weak, he's a gladiator about to step into the ring for battle. The incredibly motivating, punchy advert throws the names of illnesses onscreen right next to real-life patients who are battling them; a big VS in between demonstrates that this is a battle, that what they are going through requires bravery, courage, strength, and that these patients aren't going down easy. We see kids with determined, fierce facial expressions, roaring like lions, dressed like Spartans; all of which rouses an extreme fire in the viewer's belly of utter admiration and emotion. The fast-paced rap overlayed in the spot adds to this inspiring atmosphere.
With the feeling of a psych-up, motivational video you would watch before getting into a boxing ring, it really encapsulates the strength of these real-life patients, and the gravity of their situations, their lives do hang in the balance and often the only thing keeping them alive is their courage. For anyone who has family/friends who have suffered recently or in the past, this will hit home, and will (quite rightly) make you fully appreciate their sheer bravery and spirit.
