Stephen Curry bounces back
Under Armour continue to light up the NBA through their partnership with two-time MVP; Stephen Curry. After snapping him up 18 motnhs ago after Nike passed him on, Curry has arguably become the greatest player in the NBA, and an incredible ambassador for the brand. With the image of an underdog, he has gone from strength to strength in the last few years.
However, after the disappointment of last season; when Curry and his Golden State Warriors messed up a 3-1 lead to lose the Championship, both Curry and Under Armour have everything to prove this year. Curry; to prove he is still the greatest, and Under Armour; to continue to snap at the heels of the sports mega-brands; Nike & adidas.
Thus, Under Armour released this spot today. The fast-paced, personal ad runs with the tagline Make That Old; addressing the need for Curry to forget what happened last year and bounce back. It's a great piece of content, and the repetition of Curry's words by the various kids in the spot gives it all the musing throwback to Curry's underdog roots, despite now being hailed as the King of the NBA. Under Armour don't try too hard with this spot, and it avoids any cringe, coming across as simple, and most importantly, real.
The bottom line; Curry's performance and Under Armour's success will be directly linked this year, so the brand will be hoping for big things this season.
