Vegetables that taste like chocolate?
Scientists at the University of London have invented a spoon called Taste Buddy that emits low-level electrical currents, which can make food taste sweeter or saltier than it really is.
The electricity stimulates the taste buds to mimic their reaction as if they had just come into contact with sweet food such as chocolate, creating a sweet taste sensation whilst eating something as simple as a carrot. Interestingly, it also has a lot to do with temperature and so minor hot and cold variations by the technology also enhance the experience.
What does this mean for us? Well, it is still just a prototype, but this could be great news for those who don't like vegetables, or vegetarians who like the taste of meat. Tofu that tastes like lamb, broccoli that tastes like white chocolate, the possibilities are endless!
