Westworld
Everyone is talking about it, the 'new Game of Thrones'. HBO's latest release on Netflix is spreading like wildfire, and not just in the US, it is gaining real traction here in the UK.
The latest concoction from the ever-successful production company takes a sci-fi twist introducing the land of 'Westworld'; a Wild West-style land entirely populated by robots who are practically identical to humans. This is a place that humans can pay to visit, a type of holiday where anything goes, where they are allowed to murder, steal and do all things debaucherous whilst they live in this fictional reality. A deranged type of theme park of the future, if you like.
Whilst the humans enjoy their strange, exorbitant trip, the creators and scientists work away in their headquarters, fixing robots that have malfunctioned, and writing the scripts for the characters they place within this fictional world, all for the enjoyment of their guests.
Once a set of guests finishes their indulgent trip, they are replaced by new excited guests, and the world is reset (as are the robots), all prepared again to follow the script exactly as before with no knowledge of the past.
What happens when some of these robots become too human-like and start to remember the destruction, slaughter and rape of the days before? Only two episodes in, it looks like this is the path the series will follow, and the visually stunning new programme has gripped us so far. Keep your eyes glued to the screen, next episode is on Tuesday.
