Cubs Make History
The Chicago Cubs made history last night and won their first
MLB World Series since 1908.
Having come from 3-1 down in the series, they went on to
beat the Cleveland Indians in an enthralling final game 8-7, to win the series
4-3. This is a monumental achievement for the Chicago-based team, as this is
the first time in 108 years that the club has managed to accomplish this feat.
To put it into context, when the Cubs last won the World
Series:
-
- Theodore Roosevelt was president (16 presidents
have been elected since)
-
- The zip had not been invented
-
- Neither radio nor TV had been invented
-
- Man had not landed on the moon
-
- Neither World War had happened
-
- Women couldn’t vote
To conclude, it’s been a pretty long time since the city has
won the MLB.
What’s more, they have managed to overcome the curse of
the club, put on in 1945 by Billy Sianis as revenge when he (and his goat)
were kicked out of the stadium; he swore they would never win another World
Series. Well Billy, no longer.
Nike were quick to react and produced this really cool
reactive ad on their Twitter this morning.
Congratulations to the Cubs, and thank God we now have zips.
