The Unusual Football Pitch

Ever thought a football pitch was a boring shape? Why not mix it up a bit?

Well, The Unusual Football Pitch is a charity initiative that has done just that, but for good reason. When visiting the Bangkok slums, property company AP Thai was struck by the rubbish-filled, wasteful spaces in between buildings and the lack of opportunities for young people to get outside and exercise due to the conditions of the environment in which they were living.  So, they decided to tidy up, big time.

What’s more, they decided to make good use of these unusually-shaped spaces once they’d cleared away the debris and build unique football pitches for the community to enjoy. Given the strange shape of the spaces tucked away between houses, the architects needed to be very creative to build innovative pitches that could still work for a good game of football.

What they produced are stylish, quirky football pitches that are now used regularly by the local community who have quickly adapted to the bizarre twists and turns to play their own unique games of football.  Artistically, it’s an hugely impressive project, with an abundance of creativity from the developers involved, but more importantly, morally, it is one that has provided an immense joy to those underprivileged inhabitants living in the Bangkok slums.
