Dazzling Night Skiing
Extreme sportsmen often have little to no regard for their
own safety, it’s the only way they can dare to accomplish their dangerous feats.
Often young, careless, talented and with a slight screw loose, they are willing
to push the limits to break new boundaries.
However, this can all change once they have something to
lose. Having a child for example gives them a reason to restrain themselves, a
reason to care more about their own physical wellbeing, not to throw themselves
off a cliff without a care in the world. This shift in perception is exactly
what this new short film from Mathieu Bijasson looks at.
is a professional extreme skier, taking particular
interest in night skiing. He recently became a father and with the arrival of
his little daughter comes a huge weight of responsibility. So, no more night
skiing? Well, not exactly. You can’t keep a man like Mathieu in a cage. He has
decided to customise his skiing equipment to make his night-time ski escapades
that much safer. And the result?
A visual masterpiece. Strapping LEDs to both his skis and
his poles and wearing a torch on his forehead, Bijasson rides down the pitch
black slope in majestic fashion. Set to an emotional, stirring track, you can’t
help but deeply feel the sentiment of this piece, the visual beauty of the radiant
skiing making your hairs stand up on end. The contrast of the bright, dazzling
lights, the pitch black night, and the crystal white snow makes it an incredible
visual experience and one that will cut you to the core for an indescribable
reason. Maybe it’s the love for both his daughter and his sport that his
creation represents, or the impeccable combination of the visuals and the
sounds, one thing is for sure: it’s worth a watch. Have a look here, enjoy.
