Ocean Basketball
New York City artist John Margaritis has created his latest
piece of quirky installation art for Art Basel Miami and he has done it in the
ocean.
Blending the streets with the natural world, he simply
placed a fully functional basketball hoop in the sea. His fascination with the
piece was the visual effect the wild ocean would have on the man-made object. An
extremely surreal-looking scene, the basketball hoop in the sea looks lost and
creates an atmosphere of confusion and mystery as the waves break around it. To
the innocent passer-by it throws out a number of questions about why, when etc.
and it is this disorientation and perplexity that the artist succeeds in
capturing simply by juxtaposing two immensely contrasting elements.
It’s simple yet effective and of course unique. Have a look
below and to see it in "action" watch the video here.
