Shoot portraits, not guns
A new photography project from portrait photographer Jason
Siegel has emerged, looking at the inherent power of his medium.
The project, entitled Shoot
portraits, not people, uses camera apparatus in immensely creative ways to
create visuals of firearms and memorabilia related to war and violence. In the
incredibly orchestrated project, Siegel ingeniously uses the pieces of
equipment and arranges them in perfect formation to create the end product.
What he creates is an incredibly realistic piece, which, at first glance, could
be nothing other than what he is depicting. However, upon a closer look, you
can study the ins and outs of the design and the weird and wonderful ways he
uses niche pieces of camera equipment to create his composition.
Another metaphorical layer to the project comes in the power
that these images represent: guns are powerful but so are cameras. So, by
arranging cameras in the shape of guns he calls the power of the image into
emphasis in a startlingly way.
It’s a fantastic project and one that has taken an enormous
amount of skill and artistic talent to create. Hats off to Jason, this is an
excellent work. Check out the images below and Jason’s website here.
