Skate City

In the gaming world, teaser trailers are usually brash, punchy, violent and lack a certain subtlety. An immense generalisation with exceptions of course, but the art of the game trailer hasn’t reached dizzying heights as of yet.

However, a trailer that dropped today for a new game entitled Skate City challenges the aforementioned statement and is a visually beautiful piece of content. The developers have created a minimalist, black-and-white aesthetic, featuring characters simply made up of white lines (stickmen) in a similarly minimalistic environment with simple sketched lines to create the moving backdrop.

The video ebbs and flows to the rhythm of a chilled hip-hop bassline and the simplicity of the video makes it very cool to watch. It ends with a stylish transition into a few seconds of gameplay footage, which looks fantastic. Think Grand Theft Auto on a skateboard.

Anyway, perhaps this is a sign of things to come in the gaming world, we’ll have to wait and see. Meanwhile, check out the video here.
