Snatch Remastered
Snatch: one of the
most quintessential British gangster films and a favourite amongst movie-buffs
everywhere. Brad Pitt, Jason Statham, Benicio Del Toro, Vinnie Jones and all
collated and directed by the talent that is Guy Ritchie, the film captures the
brutality, violence and humour of the British underworld of the time. To put it
simply: a classic.
So, the news that there will be a remake could provoke a
wide spectrum of emotion amongst fans. Joy at the prospect of diving back into
the Snatch underworld, horror at the
thought of ruining a British icon of a film and even curiosity to how any
director could even attempt replicating what was perfectly orchestrated by Guy
Ritchie back in 2000.
So, who’s involved?
Well, the most exciting news is that Rupert Grint will be playing
a starring role. Think loveable Ron Weasley in a white suit, getting mixed up
in something he wholeheartedly shouldn’t be and add a touch of his innocent
humour to the table. When you throw Skins
protagonist-cum-Musketeer Luke Pasqualino and the teen favourite Gossip Girl
heart-throb Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) into the mix, you have a fascinating cast.
An enormously eclectic array of actors that could potentially gel beautifully and
create a stunning remake of the seminal film, or utterly and profoundly butcher
the classic.
That’s the joy: nobody has a clue whether this will be amazing
or appalling, glorious or grotesque.
If the teaser trailer is anything to go by, it looks fast-paced,
funny, violent, unpretentious and nicely shot. Hopefully this will be the case.
Personally, I think this could be brilliant. Check out the teaser here, it will
be released on streaming service Crackle on 16th March.
