Am I Typecast?

"Am I typecast?", asks Michael K. Williams (12 Years A Slave, Boardwalk Empire) in the new advert for The Atlantic.

In a clever piece of advertising, Williams takes on the role of four separate versions of himself, each with a differently angled opinion on the discussion. "What if a cat pretended it were a poodle and persuaded everyone around him that it were a poodle? Wouldn't that make it a poodle?", asks one of Williams' characters thoughtfully.

As the advert develops, three characters gang up on the 'real' Williams to try and persuade him that he is, in fact, typecast as an actor. In a funny, light-hearted and interesting discussion the 'real' Williams fights his corner fervently and rebutts the ongoing typecast accusation emphasising that he chose his own path, no one chose it for him.

A very low-key piece of film that won't blow you away, but one that will certainly make you think (exactly what the publication aim to do with their magazine) and will also illustrate Williams' impressive talent as an actor. Have a look here, it's strangely mesmerising.
