Danish Advert hits to the core
Some Danish advertising has really caught our eye in the
form of a TVC released on their YouTube channel. TV2 Denmark (a Danish TV
channel) have dropped an incredibly moving, emotive and heart-warming advert
all about the acceptance of others.
In what is a stunningly simple yet ingenious idea from the
Danes, they begin the advert by bringing people from every facet of life into a
room. They then illustrate the startling differences between the groups; the
wealth gaps, the fear of certain groups, the dislike of certain groups, the
social differences. They are physically and visibly differentiated by boxes
drawn on the room’s floor so the audience can visualise the variety of
character present.
What happens then is beautifully and elegantly orchestrated
by the video’s creators: instead of focusing on the differences between these
people, the film highlights the similarities that exist and cross over multiple
groups. The participants are invited to answer a selection of personal,
poignant and humorous questions relating to sex, life, childhood, experiences,
and each time they move to the front of the room to join those who have the
same answer. They visibly find mutual comfort in the similarities they have with
people that are seemingly so different from them at first glance. A collective
bond is formed between people from totally different walks of life, different
ages, different professions.
It’s impossible to portray the emotion of the advert in
words, so I’ll let you watch it. It’s utterly superb; hats off to the agency
and the brand; so touching and relevant in the current climate. Check it out here.
