Marika Hackman Returns

24-year-old, English singer-songwriter Marika Hackman is back.

This is the first material she has released since her Christmas EP in November last year, which included her stunning cover of O Come O Come Emmanuel. Moving slightly away from her acoustic-focused original album We Slept At Last, her new song Boyfriend represents a punchier, more upbeat sound than we are used to. The optimistic and attitudinal sound seems a long way from previous songs such as Drown and Ophelia, both of which were laden with sadness.

Produced by alt-J’s Charlie Andrew, this is exciting stuff from the youngster, perhaps this will pave the way for her future material. Who knows, for now, have a listen here.
