Stranger Things win the Superbowl
In what was one of the most exciting and incredible
comebacks in Superbowl history, at around 5am UK time yesterday, the New England
Patriots took the crown of Superbowl LI.
And, as a result of the exhilarating sporting scenes in the
stadium, for once the advertising campaigns took a backseat rather than
challenging the main event.
However, one campaign still managed to provoke a lot of
conversation and distract attention away from the game (every advertiser’s
dream). Controversially, it wasn’t even a brand who managed to usurp the
audience’s attention-span, it was in fact a TV series.
Cult-series Stranger
Things ingeniously chose the Superbowl LI as a platform to drop their
Season 2 trailer as well as the release date. And? Well, it worked. It worked
an absolute treat. What’s more, it probably penetrated an entirely new
fan-base; sports viewers instead of their stereotypically nerdy,
comic-book-reading audience.
Imaginative, skillful and shrewd marketing from Netflix for
one of our all-time favourite shows here at Qulture, just a shame about the
release date: October 31st is so f***ing far away. Check out the
trailer here.
