Analogue Loaders
Computers have changed the world, there’s no doubt about it. They have sped up almost every process that we do on a day-to-day basis and put a farcical amount of information at our fingertips. However, this doesn’t mean that they aren’t frequently utterly infuriating.
There is no one on this planet whose stomach doesn’t
excruciatingly knot when the dreaded egg timer (or spinning wheel for all Mac users)
pops up innocently on the screen. In most people, this subsequently provokes an
uncontrollable rage that can be quelled only by physically throwing your
monitor across the room. Loading, buffering and not responding have all left an immense amount of destruction in
their wake and caused many a vein to bulge.
So, why are we discussing the woes of slow computers? Well,
film director Raphael Vangelis has created a piece entitled Analogue Loaders that is currently
trending on Vimeo looking into this exact topic. Created as a homage to all the
lost time we collectively spend in digital limbo, the beautiful video animates
a wide variety of computer-related logos, each with its own unique and
colourful character.
The result is a playful, light-hearted and humorous look at
the vexation and grievance that slow computers induce in human beings, all set
to an 8-bit-esque soundtrack, which is guaranteed to make you smile and
(hopefully) will relax you enough to restrain you from smashing your computer
screen into a million pieces.
If you’re suffering from digital-related stress, watch this now
here. If not, and you're a more relaxed type of person (lucky you), watch it anyway, it’s quirky and fun.
