DIY at Sea
A nice piece of advertising, both visually and
metaphorically, has been released by Leroy Merlin (the American equivalent of
B&Q).
Redecorating a home is a monumental task and shouldn’t be
taken lightly. To rip down walls, repaint, rebuild and redesign really takes a lot
out of you but can be an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling experience,
especially if you do it with someone you love. Thus, this is the message that
Leroy Merlin want to highlight in their new spot, the joys of DIY.
However, they take a different tack from most and, in a
short film reminiscent of Pixar’s UP, their house travels to sea.
The metaphor is apt and we are treated to an aesthetically
beautiful love story; the sea ebbs and flows around the couple throughout the
piece, changing in line with the mood of the characters. Tempestuous seas
accompany brash arguments, glass-like waters appear at sunset whilst the couple
lie arm in arm, content on the floor of their soon-to-be-renovated house, and a
grey mist swoops over the ocean to reflect a moment of uncertainty on what they
are to do next.
It’s a lovely piece and well worth a watch, very different
from your everyday hardware store ads that pop up garishly on your TV screen. Check
it out here.
