Intermarché Impress
French supermarket Intermarché have released an excellent spot, tailored
to all you romantics by way of a French love story.
However, this isn’t your typical, cringe-worthy love-advert;
this has much more nuance, more subtlety, and is also set to a French song,
which, by definition, makes it infinitely more romantic than anything in
English.
The plot? It is the story of a young man slowly learning to
adapt his shopping habits to impress the girl on the checkout. Her look of
slight disappointment at his basket, which is initially filled with frozen
pizzas, spurs him to become creative in the kitchen, just so he can appear
healthy and cultured in front of his crush. He gradually teaches himself how to
cook with fresh fruit and vegetables and progressively replaces the frozen
pizzas with fennel, carrots and red peppers, much to her visible delight. The
result? I won’t ruin it, watch it yourself.
However, it’s not just the story that impresses here. The
advert is beautifully filmed; we are treated to lovely, colourful shots of the
young man with his newfound vegetables as well as long, lingering shots of the
interaction between the two lovers. It’s simple, subtle and effective.
An absolute joy to watch and certain to put a smile on your
face. Check it out here.
