Smartify
A very cool piece of innovation that has emerged online in
the last few days should brighten up your day.
Have you ever been walking through an art gallery, been
particularly taken by a certain painting and just wanted to know a bit more
about it? Maybe to impress whoever you’re with, prove to your parents that you are concentrating or simply to get a
deeper understanding of the artist? Well, your troubles will be over when the Smartify
app launches this May.
This clever piece of technology uses recognition software to
scan the painting on your smartphone and then provide a detailed description of
the work. Pretty cool
huh? Imagine being able to fizz off facts about Renaissance paintings
off-the-cuff whilst you wander around a gallery, or cite Rembrandt’s
inspiration behind one of his many portraits; you’d reinvent yourself into a
culture vulture in no time.
Further down the line, Smartify hope to partner with
galleries all around the world as the app gains recognition so that it can be
used in some of the most famous exhibitions. Additionally, it will have a ‘favourites’
feature so that you can save a selection of your preferred works and have them
in your pocket.
This is similar to the work that tech-company Blippar has
done to create a visual search engine and represents a new path to information
for the consumer. Instead of feverishly typing away into Google to get your knowledge,
it won't be long before we can nonchalantly scan
anything in front of our eyes and be presented with information at
our fingertips.
Pretty cool. Keep an eye out for Smartify’s release.
