The Tequila Cloud
Mexicans love tequila, period. At least, that’s the stereotype.
And so, the Mexicans themselves have decided to use this cultural trope to
their advantage to attract tourists to their wonderful country.
How? Through an immersive art project in Berlin.
Using sophisticated, scientific technology, ad agency Lapiz have created a cloud inside a
Berlin urban space that mirrors the weather patterns of the city (slightly
reminiscent of The Cloud Artist). So, when it rains in Berlin, it rains inside
the gallery. Clever, right?
However, there’s nothing Mexican about a raining
cloud. Therefore, the agency have ensured it isn’t rainwater that precipitates
from the installation, in one of the most quintessentially Mexican moves ever
to grace the art world, the cloud actually rains tequila.
So, whenever it’s raining out in the Berlin streets, tequila
pours from the white, fluffy cloud into the shot glasses happy visitors hold beneath it. Additionally,
just in case Berlin is unusually dry, there is a tequila tap beneath the cloud
to fill up your glass if the cloud doesn’t fancy raining for you.
We could explain the science behind it, but it’s quite
complex and confusing, so you can look that up yourself.
A fun, immersive and humorous piece of marketing from the
Latin American country (and Lapiz)
and one that will hopefully persuade swathes of Berliners to jump on a plane. Check
out some snaps below (it's aesthetically very beautiful) and a video of the cloud in action here.
