American Dystopia
Climate change is slowly but surely destroying our planet
and it is increasingly vital we do something about it. Unfortunately, there are
still those who believe it to be fictional, and some of them leverage a
significant amount of power. However, the common people can still make a
difference, whether through personal lifestyle choices or by simply supporting
the causes that are fighting for change.
So, off their own backs, ad agency Walden Hyde (based in
Colorado) have produced some art deco-esque posters to try and rally support
for all those dedicating their lives to saving our beautiful planet. At a
glance, they look like typical travel posters depicting some of the famous
American sights, however, when you look a little closer, the dystopian element
of the artwork becomes evident.
“See the torch”, proclaims one poster, depicting the Statue
of Liberty’s hand poking out from underneath the sea; the monument is entirely
submerged bar the hand. “Dive Washington, D.C.”, advertises another, showing divers
swimming around the famous statue of Abraham Lincoln. Although clearly
exaggerated, the posters shed a sinister light on what our planet could look
like in the not-too-distant future and emanate sadness as to how much historical
heritage there is for us to lose.
They are simple, aesthetically brilliant (they’d look great
on a bedroom wall), and free to download, so if you’ve got a few spare pennies
you can make yourself a poster. Check them out below, and fulfil what Walden
Hyde set out to do with this project: “Show your support for a climate
researcher you love and/or climate research in general.”
