Creative Mirrors
A lovely set of surreal photos for you to feast your eyes on
today, both lulling and soothing, exactly what you need on a Tuesday.
This pacifying project comes from Australian photographer
Murray Fredericks and is inspired by his experiences at an immense salt lake in
the south of his homeland. Spending some time standing in the shallows, with
the water lapping against his toes, Fredericks was overcome by feelings of
serenity and tranquillity. Having captured beautiful photographs of the
landscape and horizon, with the light playfully reflecting off the water, he
decided to do something a little bit different.
So, Fredericks lugged a vast mirror into the shallows,
setting it up at different times of the day at various angles to encapsulate
the stunning, shimmering landscape around him but with a unique twist. The
result is a quasi-360 degree effect, in which you are privy to a dazzling
landscape as well as an alternative reflection bouncing off the mirror itself.
The photos thus become a fuller portrait of this incredible place, giving the
viewer the freedom to see more than normally possible in a standard photograph.
They vary between dazzling blue, midday skies, to iridescent reflections off
the still water of the setting sun, all the way to spectacular long-exposure
shots of the starry skies buoyantly meeting the horizon.
The photos are quite simply mesmerising, check them out
below. Additionally, have a look at Fredericks' Instagram for any upcoming
projects.
