Michelin Star Ration Packs
Picture the scene. The fridge is quasi-empty but for a few
leftovers and staples. You’re starving. The shops are closed. So, you let your
creative juices flow and rustle up something from practically nothing. Satisfying
isn’t it? Using your nous and imagination to create something delicious from seeming
nullity is an immensely gratifying experience.
And, this is exactly what a chef has done with regards to
military rations. MRE (Meals ready to eat) are infamously inedible and dull all
over the world subsequently earning the nickname: meals rejected by everyone.
Why should some of the most courageous people that exist on this planet be
subject to such gastronomic monstrosity?
Well, Chuck George, Jimmy Pham and Henry Hargreaves (a chef,
a videographer and a photographer) have teamed up to make military meals into
the kind of meal these courageous people deserve. They have taken the ration
packs and, in a whirlwind of creativity, transformed them into Michelin
Star-worthy dishes. As well as showing off their hugely innovative skills, they
wanted to make troops from the furthest parts of the world feel valued and
appreciated, giving some emotional respect to these incredible people. In what
is a brilliant and meaningful project, these talented individuals are shining
the light on the world’s military services, celebrating their heroism in a
unique way.
The results are phenomenal, check out a summary video here and a selection of photos below: it truly does look like a restaurant of the
highest calibre.
