Photographing Mars
An aesthetically stunning photography project for you today,
this time based in deepest, darkest Alaska but, as always, with a subtle and
interesting twist.
The incredibly talented Bradley G. Munkowitz, fka GMUNK, has added to his
already-impressive and extensive portfolio of work with an innovative set of
photos taken in and amongst the Alaskan ice. Creatively inspiring photographers
all over the world, this harsh environment is already untouched, barren and jaw-droppingly
beautiful, but GMUNK decided to capture
it in an unique manner.
To escape normality and drift into a surreal domain, he
opted to shoot all of his content through infrared filters attached to his
cameras. What this resulted in was a series of hypnagogic, fantastical photos,
seemingly transporting us to another world. In fact, as a consequence of the
red hue that an infrared camera provokes, it almost feels as though these are
landscapes from the planet Mars.
Couple this dreamlike red hue with the sensational
landscapes of Alaska, and you have some pretty special photos.
Check out a few of the photos below and GMUNK’s Instagram for some of his other work.
