Picasso Reworked
An inventive and retrospective art
project for you today.
Pablo Picasso is one of the most
famous and iconic artists of all time, reinventing modern art as we know it today.
His huge, eclectic variety of styles was one of his most impressive features as
an artist and his coining of Cubism is one of his countless achievements. Such
Cubist works as The Weeping Woman and
Girl with a Mandolin have become
quintessential points of reference for any art historian and inspired a whole
movement of artists to follow in his wake.
Well, these inspirees now include Pakistani artist Omar Aqil who has recreated
a selection of Picasso’s Cubist works in 3D. He has reformed the 2D, angular
shapes that are found in Picasso’s paintings into sculptures made from a
variety of different media. This results in a modernising and fresh look at of
some of the most archetypal oeuvres in a completely different context.
The project is fun, purposefully hyper-realistic
and brings Picasso’s works into the contemporary era as well as injecting a new
lease of life and energy into his original Cubist ideas.
Check out the works below and
Aqil’s website for more information on this fascinating project.
