XX release Night + Day short film

The XX probably never expected the mind-blowing reception they received all over Brixton as they took the London district by storm for their Night + Day tour last month. They were welcomed back to their roots like heroes and the shows they put on were greeted with immense critical acclaim. Everything from the visible takeover of Brixton station, to the eclectic selection of support acts they involved, to the truly immense shows they played, made the tour a huge success.

What’s more, and unbeknown to most, the tour was an incredible success for the local people of Brixton. The band made a conscious effort to involve as many locals as possible with the tour as well as spending their own time in the local arts and music centres doing everything they could to help publicise and give gravitas to the various projects. Romy, Oliver and Jamie all stem from this part of the capital and so the tour became a very emotive and personal experience for all of them. Meeting a myriad of amazing local Brixtonians, they gave the time of day to so many in the short space of time they had.

Off the back of this, the entire project, including all of the behind-the-scenes experiences the trio had in the area, has been captured and edited into a beautifully orchestrated 20-minute short film, immortalising the hectic couple of weeks. What is clear is the profound effect this tour had on all three members of the band, in a sentimental sense. At the end of the day, they are just three South Londoners who have been transformed into global superstars, but it was evident this hasn’t gone to their heads and that there’s truly no place like home.
