Extinguishing Colour
A fiery art project for you today, in more ways than one.
Amsterdam-based artist Rutger de Vries (famously obsessed with colour) manipulated two commonplace objects, transforming them into robotic and spontaneous artists. The two objects in question? Fire extinguishers and garden sprinklers.
Filling the fire extinguishers with vivid pigment and subsequently connecting them to the sprinklers, the artist proceeded to set them off and let them impetuously paint the room. With the doors closed, the sprinklers were left to freely decorate the walls, creating an incredible result.
The consequential picture was a cacophony of colour. The walls were stylishly covered with dancing jets of paint, every colour clashing and combining to create an artistic randomness and improvisation.
