Please Drink Responsibly
A simple and ingenious piece of beer marketing for you
today.
Craft beer has inundated the bars and clubs of the world in
recent years, becoming the staple drink for any wannabe-trendsetter. Consequently,
microbreweries have sprung up all over the UK, constantly producing the latest
(and tastiest so they claim) hoppy IPA or creamy stout. In fact, there are now
so many breweries that it’s very difficult to keep up and differentiate between
them.
So, UBREW, a small craft brewery in London, have decided to
do something memorable to avoid becoming just another craft on the shelf. How
have they done it? Well, the logophiles at UBREW have used wordplay, something
we are particularly fond of here at Qulture, and played on the legal requirements
that have to accompany all alcohol-related advertising: Please drink responsibly.
They have, in actual fact, named their beer Responsibly and graciously thanked all
other beer brands all over the world for encouraging people to drink their beer
in their respective advertising campaigns. This is because, of course, a
Heineken advert would have to include the line: Please drink responsibly, which, when taken literally, urges
drinkers to consume UBREW’s signature beverage.
It’s tongue-in-cheek, funny and comes with a cracking
tagline: The beer that all other beers
ask you to drink. Bravo UBREW, an excellent piece of marketing, we just
hope the beer tastes as good as the idea.
