IKEA's Edible Cookbook
An ingenious cooking innovation from IKEA and one that could
change the face of the cookbook for good.
Every cookbook’s different. A “splash” of oil for a Michelin
star chef is a long way from the generous glug that Jamie Oliver’s “splash”
would constitute. Thus, inexperienced chefs lose confidence. They lose
confidence in their ability to understand exactly what should be going into a
recipe, worried at every turn that their “sprinkling” or “dash” is vastly
different from that of the author. And alas, they opt for the dreaded microwave
meal.
IKEA wanted to change that. So, IKEA have got rid of all
doubts. They’ve done it with edible parchment and food-safe ink: their new
cookbook is made entirely out of the stuff. And, instead of using imprecise
words such as “splash”, they’ve simply drawn outlines on the page that you fill
with the ingredient. “This much salt” explains the small circle on the paper, “two
slices of lemon” dictates the two lemon-slice-shaped semi circles. It’s
flawless, simple and fantastic. What’s more, once everything is arranged on the
paper, you simply wrap it up and shove it in the oven.
Next thing you know, you’ve got a delicious Swedish delicacy
on your plate.
Creative, innovative and simple. Check out a video below.
