Short Film: The Little Things
Spanish beer brand Estrella have just released a quirky
short film featuring French acting powerhouse Jean Reno as part of their 2017
brand campaign.
The beauty of this piece of content is the stunning
cinematography. Shot in the Spanish Mediterranean, the plot unfolds in a charming
seaside town where Reno finds himself with nothing to do for a few days in the
middle of a film shoot. Having angrily complained about a crucial line in the
script, the team take a few days off to regroup and Reno is tasked with the
challenge of writing his own version of this short but important piece of
dialogue.
A young, beautiful, and immensely smiley Spanish girl is
assigned to him as a tour guide, but her excitement quickly wanes as she
realises how miserable Reno is as a person. Her efforts, however, do not, and
she tries her utmost to fully integrate Reno into her local friendship group
and, much to his dissatisfaction, she invites him to hang out and do all the
little things the locals do.
Without jumping the gun and ruining it for you, the plot
develops charmingly and is very heart-warming to watch, culminating in multiple
moments of alluring denouement.
Perhaps (definitely) there are a few too many planted
Estrellas, but don’t let this take away from the remarkable shots the
cinematographer manages to capture, truly giving any viewer an immediate desire
to visit this delightful town. You can almost taste the food he eats, feel the
sea spray on your face and the sun beat down on your neck, it’s aesthetically
beautiful.
Reno is (as always) great and the young Spaniard (Laia
Costa) is equally brilliant and one to watch for the future.
