Volvo: Moments

A beautiful piece of advertising has just been released by Swedish car brand Volvo, taking the viewer on an emotional journey through a little girl’s life.

Entitled Moments, it begins on a young daughter’s first day of school. Nervous and worried, she timidly admits to her Mum: “I don’t know what to do”, to which her mother encouragingly replies: “You can decide, you’re in control”. This phrase, and the idea of taking control of your own life, then paves the way for the rest of the emotive and stirring advert.

Set to a moving soundtrack, the young girl proceeds to narrate her fast-paced journey, telling tales of her hopes and dreams for when she grows up. As the track builds, she quickly grows up, travels the world and the complementary cinematography is quite simply breath-taking. Every shot is stunning: the lighting, the subtle nuance of the camera angles, the editing and juxtaposition of scenes, it’s all mind-blowing and matches the high-intensity emotion of this young girl growing up.

To top it all off, the twist at the end of the spot works two-fold: it’s shocking and impassioned as well as subtly representing a clever piece of marketing to show off the Volvo vehicle itself, all without feeling like forced product placement.
