Jumpy

A nice piece of animated content for you on this Sunday evening.

Taking the unusual genre of the gaming animation style, the short personifies a character in a simple video game, appealing to the audience to identify with Jumpy: a cute, pink bunny rabbit in a Super Mario-esque game.

We see as the character repeatedly comes unstuck at the same hurdle in the game whilst other characters surpass the obstacle with ease. This leads to frustration for Jumpy, manifesting in a stern, energy-fuelled, determined expression on the bunny’s face who, by now, has demonstrated it has its own personality, quite independent from the control of the gamer pictured in front of the TV.

In fact, what’s special about this piece of content is the strength of emotion that the director manages to bring out of the viewer for Jumpy, the strong empathy you unconsciously feel for an 8-bit, fictional character.

I won’t ruin the ending, but it’s worth a watch.
